Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed in 1987 in Aberdeen, Washington. The band was founded by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, and later included drummer Dave Grohl. Nirvana is often credited with popularizing the "grunge" genre of alternative rock, which emerged in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1980s.
