"Muriel's Wedding" is a 1994 Australian comedy-drama film written and directed by P.J. Hogan. The film stars Toni Collette in the lead role of Muriel Heslop, a socially awkward and unhappy woman (who we just ADORE) who dreams of escaping her small hometown of Porpoise Spit and finding happiness and success.

Muriel and her friend Rhonda (played by Rachel Griffiths) move to Sydney together to start a new life, but their plans are derailed when Rhonda is diagnosed with cancer.
